The brief
The Council wanted to explain the Multiannual Financial Framework, the EU's long-term budget, to a general audience: where it comes from, how it has changed and how it works today. A scroll story, with text and visuals that unfold as you scroll, was the chosen format.
What I did
I laid the foundation with weeks of research to reconstruct the history of the MFF. I set it out in a research paper, collecting the data, figures, quotes and key moments from each budget period, and wrote the first draft of the story. I then worked closely with the graphic designers, in shorthand, turning the research into a clear structure they could design around.
What I learned
My traineeship ended before the story went live, but it was a central part of my time at the Council. It taught me how much research a clear story needs, and how to reconcile ambitious ideas with limited resources.
